A lotus flower with 12 petals - golden in color. The color of this Chakra is GREEN; it resonates to the note of F. The Mantra is Yam. Aroma is rose. The image in nature to focus on is untouched nature, blossoms, or a pink sky.

Balance, compassion, self-acceptance, good relationships. Located in the center of the chest. It is related to love and is the integrator of opposites in the psyche : mind and body, male and female, persona and shadow, ego and unity. A healthy fourth chakra allows us to love deeply, feel compassion, have a deep sense of peace and centeredness. When the heart centre has been fully opened, it becomes the channel for Universal Love ; what the Buddhists call Mahakaruna ot "the Great Compassion", and esoteric Christians and Theosophists the "Christ Consciousness". Once opened, the Higher Self or Immortal Divine Soul is able to work through this centre. This is probably why in so many cultures the heart is said to be the seat of the soul.

Open and Balanced : You are a very compassionate, understanding, and generous person. The emotions of love, joy, happiness, honesty, and respect are very important to you. You are considerate and sensitive to the needs of others, and empathetic to their pain. You are able to feel love for all beings around you, in an ever-widening circle from yourself and family, your pets, friends, neighbours, cuntrymen, fellow human beings and all fellow living beings on Earth. Ultimately, you can see the Divine - you can see God or Godhead or the Self - in all beings, and you realise the same Self in you is also the Self in them as well.

Overactive : You are dominated by your emotions and feelings, such as love, joy, sorrow. You are the sort of person who is desperate to please others, and are too overly concerned with the needs of others, putting them above your own needs in an unbalanced way. This personality type - who is more likely to be a woman than a man - may be involved with a self-centred or immature partner, taking all their abuse, always forgiving, and cleaning up after them.

Malfunctioning : You are full of negative emotions such as hatred, guilt, selfishness, paranoia, impatience, and self-pity. You can have powerful, passionate feelings for others, but you will only love another or do something for them on the condition that they love or do something for you first.

Blocked : You are a hard-hearted, unsympathetic, self-centred person. You are afraid to love others, and unable to love yourself.

The heart chakra, Anahata, is related to love, equilibrium, and well-being. It is related to the thymus, located in the chest. This organ is part of the immune system, as well as being part of the endocrine system. It produces T cells responsible for fighting off disease, and is adversely affected by stress. The 12-petaled lotus symbol of the heart chakra contains within it two intersecting triangles forming a six-pointed star. These triangles represent the force of matter moving upward toward liberation and the force of spirit moving into manifestation. It is at this chakra that they are evenly combined, creating a center of peace and balance.

The heart chakra is related to the element air and the quality of love. Air is formless, largely invisible, absolutely necessary, and the least dense of our first four elements. Air is expansive as it will expand to fit any space it is put into, yet it is soft and gentle. So, too, is love. Love is the expansion of the heart, the transcendence of boundaries, the interconnectedness of spirit. Love is balance, ease, softness, forgiveness. And love at the heart chakra is felt as a state of being, existing independently of any object or person, unlike the passion-oriented love of the second chakra.

The Sanskrit name for this chakra is Anahata, which means "sound that is made without any two things striking." This describes a state where we are no longer fighting or confronting what we love but moving with it in graceful harmony. The fight of the third chakra gives way to graceful acceptance in the fourth. Because Anahata is related to the element air, it is accessible through the breath. The Hindus call the breath prana, which means "first unit," and they believe it contains the essence of all vitality and nourishment, being the point of commonality between the mental and physical worlds. Opening up the breath, unloosening whatever tensions are constricting it, is a way of accessing the heart chakra. chakrasbw4

If the heart chakra is closed down, the very core of us suffers. Our breathing is shallow, slowing down our metabolism and our physical energy. Blocked at the center, we feel divided between mind and body. We pull in to ourselves, withdraw, and become a closed system. When the heart chakra is too open, there is a tendency to give all our time and energy away, to be so focused on "other" that we lose our own center. Love and Harmony rule this Chakra. The greatest need of this Chakra is to feel protected, to love and be loved. When in harmony, a person experiences a love for self leading to a love for all. This Energy Center represents the qualities of air in the personality - airiness, mobility, gentleness, and lightness. It relates to relationships. It governs the heart, blood and circulatory system, and the physical sensation of touch; it has a strong influence on the endocrine and immune system. This is the Chakra where you fall in love. It deals with issues of the soul.

The Heart-Chakra is the inner holy grail. Tree of life, the life giver. Trees are the solution for a lot of our problems, they reduce CO2 and produce O2. They also create a relaxing environment for humans and animals. We may much better invest our tax money not in roads but in planting trees. salomonsknoop
